Lillian G. Rossow
June 24, 1928 - March 24, 2019
Lillian Gail Rossow, 90, of Bowling Green, Ohio and formerly of Lake Lure, North Carolina passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Bowling Green.
She was born June 24, 1928 in Custar, Ohio to the late Louis C. and Candice (Kieffer) Rossow. Born with Spina Bifida, Lillian underwent surgery to repair her spine when she was only 3 or 4 days old at the Mercy Hospital, Toledo.
She was a Milton Township High School graduate and earned a teachers certificate after graduating from BGSU in 1950. She furthered her education and became a Radiology Technician and worked for the Fostoria City Hospital and Sandusky Hospital. After being called into work with too many emergencies from Cedar Point, she would eventually respond to an advertisement and she became the director of the Campfire Girls, and worked there for 15 years.
At an early age she started golfing with her father and became a very skilled athlete. She was one of the first woman golfers at BGSU and later in 1949 she won the National Golf Foundation Championship Award. She was also an avid bowler and participated in several tournaments. She enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to tour Europe with the Girl Scouts from Bowling Green.
When Lillian moved to Lake Lure, North Carolina she was a faithful member of the Fairfield Mountain Chapel, where she was active in the choir, bell choir and bible study. She also became very passionate and active with the Rutherford County Animal Shelter. She began having yard sales and her first one raised $500. By the time she returned to Bowling Green, she had helped raise over $50,000 and the Rutherford County Humane Society Thrift Store was rededicated in her honor as "Lil's Place". She was very passionate about helping animals and her pride her joy were her two cats, Ringo and Starr.
She is survived by her only sister, Lois (William "Bill") Schwab; nephews, Steve Schwab; Bob (Marcia) Schwab; Denny (Mary) Schwab; Paul (Lynn) Schwab; nieces, Barb (Jerry) Clink; Ellen (Scott) Boyer; 17 great nieces and nephews and 19 great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler. Interment will follow in Milton Township Cemetery, Custar, Ohio.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. prior to her services at the funeral home.
