Michael "Cully" Spurgeon
November 13, 1951 - December 28, 2018
Michael "Cully" Spurgeon, 67, of Deshler, Ohio passed away Friday morning, December 28, 2018.
He was born on November 13, 1951 in Napoleon, Ohio to the late Louis "Pete" Spurgeon and Frances (Burrows) Spurgeon. On May 25, 1974 he married Rebecca "Becky" (Posey) Spurgeon at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and she preceded him in death on February 13, 2007.
Cully was a 1970 graduate of Patrick Henry High School and he worked for over 28 years with the Village of Deshler, retiring as the Streets and Sewer Superintendent in 2008. He previously worked at Stout Construction of Sylvania.
He was a life member of the Deshler Volunteer Fire Department, serving many years as the Department Fire Chief. He was a member of the Deshler Men's Association. He could be found in Deshler, either visiting at 10K Korner Mart with coffee in the mornings or numerous other stops around town. In the summer months, he enjoyed the Maumee River as a long time camper at Lucy's 22, always having a good time and being around friends.
Cully was a loving and helpful father to his children and adored his grandson and step grandchildren. Always attending family parties and helping out on family projects.
He is survived by daughter, Jeannie (Billy) Dohrmann, Sylvania; son, Jon Spurgeon (Veronica Behrns), Ottawa, Ohio; grandson, Owen Dohrmann; step grandchildren, Kailey Behrns; Jaylen Behrns; Madeline Behrns; brothers, John "Benny" (Linda) Sharpe, Deshler; Richard "Rick" (Carole) Spurgeon, Deshler and Stephen "Bones" Spurgeon, Deshler.
He was also preceded in death by sister, Earla Sharpe and brother, Mark Spurgeon.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler with Rev. Chris Walter officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home where a Fireman's Last Call Service will be held at 7:00 p.m.
The family suggests memorials to the Deshler Fireman's Association.
