E. Lucille VanScoyoc

   Evelyn Lucille VanScoyoc, 92, of Deshler, Ohio passed away Wednesday morning, May 19, 2021 at her residence.
   She was born May 16, 1929 in McComb, Ohio to the late Mack and Velma (Robinson) Stateler.  On June 5, 1948 she married Robert VanScoyoc in Shawtown, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on January 8, 2020.  They shared over 71 years of marriage.
   Lucille was a 1947 graduate of McComb High School and worked for over 20 years as a librarian at the Deshler Edwin Wood Memorial Library.  In 1969 she was recognized as Mrs. Patrick Henry Homemaker, an honor bestowed upon her by the mayor of Deshler. 
   She was a faithful member of Oakdale United Methodist Church and active with their women's groups, meal committees and was in charge of the bulletins for many years.  She was a member of the Deshler Art League and the Henry County Genealogical Society.  Over the years, she remained very active in her community and was a great resource to her friends and neighbors.  She was always on the move, whether she was delivering mail to the former Oak Grove Nursing Home or participating with the Deshler Satellite of the Henry County Senior Center and leading their exercise group for over 14 years, up until she was 90 years old.
  Most of all, she was devoted to her family.  She loved tending to the many responsibilities of her home and farm.  She enjoyed a good cup of coffee, gardening, cooking, and making Christmas ornaments with her scroll saw.  Her family will remember her for her admiration of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
   She is survived by a daughter, Charlene Rettig, Findlay; 6 grandchildren, Terry (Donna) VanScoyoc; Stephen VanScoyoc; Jennifer (Chad) Whitmore; Jeremiah (Amanda Anderson) VanScoyoc; Aubrey Rettig; Briana (Brian) Sherick; 7 great grandchildren, Kiaya; Ashleigh; Noah; Cole; Bailey; Braiden; Brody and her faithful longtime pet dog, Button.
   She was also preceded in death by two sons, John VanScoyoc and William "Bill" VanScoyoc; two grandsons, Matthew Rettig and Jeffrey VanScoyoc and brother, Merrill Stateler.
   Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Oakdale United Methodist Church, Deshler with Rev. Chris Walter officiating.  A private burial will be held for the family at McComb Union Cemetery.
   The family suggests memorials to Oakdale United Methodist Church, Deshler Edwin Wood Memorial Library, or the Henry County Senior Center.
