Howard F. Powell, Sr.
December 23, 1922 - September 29, 2020
Howard Franklin "Fuzz" Powell, Sr., 97, of Deshler, Ohio passed away Tuesday morning, September 29, 2020 at Wood County Hospital, Bowling Green, Ohio.
He was born on December 23, 1922 in Deshler to the late Edward "E.C." and Pearl (Donald) Powell. On October 30, 1941 he married Mary (Declerq) Powell and they have been united for over 78 years.
Howard honorably served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. He worked for over 35 years as a clerk with the B & O Railroad in Deshler and Defiance, Ohio. He retired in 1984.
He was a lifetime member of the Deshler American Legion Post #316 and an at-large member of the VFW. He was affiliated with the New Beginnings United Methodist Church, Deshler and the former St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Fuzz enjoyed horse races and taking trips to the local race tracks. When home, he was often gardening and doing yard work. He took a special interest in feeding the birds and squirrels in his back yard. He would also take daily cruises around the town and country.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary; daughter, Judy (Ronald) Maas; son, Howard (Sandy) Powell, Jr.; 6 grandchildren, Dean (Kristine) Maas; Jackie (Jon) Bower; Steve Maas; Dale Powell; Sheila (Brooks) Elliott; Jill Powell; 10 great grandchildren, Clay (Emily) Maas; Drew Maas; Austin (Elizabeth) Bower; Rylee Bower; Remi Bower; Josh (Lacey) Powell; Derek (Laurie) Powell; Jordan Powell; Emily Elliott; Evan Elliott; and 6 great great grandchildren, Novak; Marlee; Brezlee; Grady; Olivia; Calvin and #7 on the way.
He was preceded in death by two infant sons, David and Robert Powell; brother, William Powell; and infant sisters, Louise and Dorothy Powell.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler with Pastor Chris Walter officiating. Burial will follow in McComb Union Cemetery, McComb, Ohio.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Those attending services will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing guidelines.
The family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
