Juan "John" Luna Obituary

Juan “John” Luna

August 25, 1930 – April 22, 2020

Juan “John” Luis Luna, 89, of Deshler, Ohio received his wings on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at The Meadows of Leipsic, Ohio.

He was born in Hebbronville, Texas on August 25, 1930 to the late Juan L. and Blaza Dela (Garza) Luna, Sr.  On April 16, 1983 he married the love of his wife, Janet (Peck) Luna.

John was a hard working man who provided for his family.  You most likely knew him from John Luna & Son Refuse, which he owned and operated for over 30 years.  He previously worked for the former Metal Forge Company and former Koppenhoffer’s Bros. Poultry, both of Deshler.

Throughout life, he was an easy going, strong, funny man who loved playing his guitar or harmonica, sitting down for a card game, fishing, making peanut brittle at Christmas time, watching the Wheel of Fortune and dancing like no one was watching.

You could often catch him on his mower cutting his grass or his neighbors, working on his golf cart and enjoying a beer or two with friends.  He may have been a man of few words, but he felt that was the way that one learns more.  He loved anything sweet; especially coffee cake, cookies, homemade pie and ice cream; he had “one” sweet tooth.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Deshler American Legion Post #316 where he made the company of many and never shared a dull moment.

He was true member of Pleasant View Campground, Van Buren, Ohio from 1997-2018.  He bought his first camper on Father’s Day 1997 and from then on he enjoyed the Saturday night dances, fishing around the pond, walking with the ducks, or just watching his wife cook and entertain.  Pleasant View was a second home and a place where many friendships and memories were made.

He will forever be remembered as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and a dear friend.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Janet; daughter, RoseMarie (Charles) Romer and son, Ralph Luna, Sr.; granddaughter, Lily Rose Eagleson; 9 other grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a five children, Matthew Willis Luna; Debbie Luna; John Luna, III; Samuel Luna; Joseph Luna; sister, Georgia Mae Reynolds and brothers, Paul, Edward and Raymond Luna.

A funeral procession for John will begin on Saturday, May 2 at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler at 1:00 p.m.  You are encouraged to participate or witness as the procession passes through Deshler on Main Street and concludes at the Woodlawn Cemetery.  John will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler with Fr. Art Niewiadomski officiating his services.  The services will be recorded and shared through the family.  A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Meadows for their care and love to John.  The family asks that in memory of John that you take time with friends and family and possibly share a beer, maybe an Old Milwaukee Light or Bud Light in his memory.

Memorials for the family can be directed to Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, PO Box 196, Deshler, Ohio 43516.
