Margaret A. Betts

April 29, 1926 – March 11, 2020

   Margaret A. Betts, 93, of Deshler, Ohio passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 11, 2020 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay, Ohio.

   She was born April 29, 1926 in Miller City, Ohio to the late Valentine “Wally” and Gertrude (Morman) Schmenk.  On February 22, 1947 she married Elmer Budde and he preceded her in death on June 9, 1979.  Then on May 8, 1982 she married Dr. Thomas F. Betts and he also preceded her in death on August 19, 1994.

   Marge graduated from St. Peter & Paul Catholic School, Ottawa in 1944.  She worked at the former Budde’s Foodland and Wally’s SuperValu, now currently operated by her son as Ron’s SuperValu.

   She was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Deshler.  Over the years, she served the church as a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Altar & Rosary Society, Finance Committee, Turkey Dinner Committee and card making ministry.  She also found time to be active with the Henry County Republican Party, the Justamere and Aladdin Clubs and even bowled in the Wednesday Night Ladies Bowling League at Deshler Lanes.  Marge always enjoyed a good card game, knitting and playing the piano.  Above all, Marge was a faithful and generous person who loved her family deeply.

   She is survived and forever cherished by her children, Sandy (Paul) Saunders, Deshler; Rick (Danie) Budde, Findlay; Ron (Jill) Budde, Deshler; step children, Betty Hipp, Findlay; Becky (Earl) Dietrich, Ponchatoula, Louisiana; Richard (Betsy) Betts, Deshler; Rosemary (Jeff) Carmean, Lexington, South Carolina; 21 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren and sister, Betty Wannemacher, Ottawa.

   She was also preceded in death by stepson, Tom Betts; step son-in-law, Herb Hipp; and sisters, Zelma Whitney and Rosemary Cartwright.

   A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Deshler with Fr. Art Niewiadomski officiating.  Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler.

   Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Friday at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler with a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

   Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or Bridge Home Health & Hospice.
