Michael Lynn Smith, 55, of Deshler, Ohio passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020.
He was born August 30, 1964 in Bowling Green, Ohio to Robert Thomas and Sharon Sue (McMaster) Smith. His father preceded him in death on September 6, 1999 and his mother survives in Deshler.
Mike was a 1984 graduate of Patrick Henry High School and then he worked many years for Gerken Paving, Napoleon, Ohio. He then worked for the Village of Deshler from 1996-2009 with the Streets and Sewer Department. In 2009 he began working for Ebony Construction, Sylvania, Ohio and was a foreman and equipment driver. He was a member of the Laborers and Operators Union.
As a youth Mike was very active with Cub Scouts and also worked for Dave Petersen at the local gas station. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Deshler.
Mike was very active and a life member and former engineer with the Deshler Volunteer Fire Department. In 2014 he was honored as a Henry County Hometown Hero for his dedicated service to the fire department. He was a member of the Deshler Men's Association and social member of the Deshler American Legion Post.
Mike was very visible in his community. He would drive around cruisin the streets and always had a good sense of humor. He never avoided a little goofing off with friends and family. He was always hardworking and kept his things clean and in good order. He would lend a hand to anyone who asked or was in need.
He is survived by daughters, Saruh Smith, Columbus, Ohio; Rachel Smith, Boston, Massachusetts; mother, Sue Smith; fiance, Carla Clemens, Deshler; stepsons, Jacob Clemens, Findlay, Ohio; Zachary Clemens, Deshler; brother, Scott (Sharon) Smith, Deshler; sisters, Ann Labie, Hamler; Sharon (Howard) Arens, Deshler; Kris Smith, Deshler; and Kim (Rob) Bonner, Deshler and many nieces, nephews, cousins, coworkers and friends.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Deshler with Fr. Art Niewiadomski officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler.
Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. on Sunday at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler. A Fireman's Last Call Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to Deshler Volunteer Fire Department, Henry County South Joint Ambulance District or Deshler Edwin Wood Memorial Library.
