Ronald L. Diem
January 21, 1946 - January 2, 2021
Ronald Lawrence Diem, 74, of Deshler, Ohio passed away Saturday morning, January 2, 2021 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Bowling Green, Ohio.
He was born January 21, 1946 in Deshler to the late Lawrence "Moon" and Kathryn (Lulfs) Diem.
Ron was a 1964 graduate of Deshler High School and then served his country in the U.S. Army with the Military Police during the Vietnam War. While in the Army he met the love of his life, Pok Sun "Lee" Diem. They were married on August 14, 1967 and shared over 53 years together.
Ron retired from Defiance Metal Products, Defiance, Ohio where he worked as a spot welder technician and was in a management position. He previously owned and operated the former Deshler Food Center and was a butcher.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Deshler; Deshler American Legion Post #316; the NRA and the Elvis Presley Fan Club.
Ron was a friend to many and if you were ever invited to his home, you surely knew what he enjoyed. One trip to his "man-cave" and you understood that he was a gun enthusiast, a huge Elvis Presley fan and worshiped John Wayne "The Duke". His friendship would lead to sharing a great-time, playing in card games or just sitting in conversation about all his collectibles. He was very patriotic and he loved his country. Patriotic music was often playing and 4th of July celebrations were very dear to him. But his greater collection and love was his family. He was a devoted family man and will be remembered as the loving patriarch of his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lee Diem; 4 children, Daniel (Deborah) Diem; Christine (Rick) Mangette; Steven (Beverly) Diem; David (Rebecca) Diem; 15 grandchildren, Matthew Diem; Cassandra Diem; Jessica Mangette; Maria Diem; Brandi Fox; Dustin Diem; Anthony Diem; Natalee Theis; Emily Mangette; Marcen Diem; Jacob Mangette; Marissa Diem; Steven R. Diem; Keith Beard; Julie Barber; 8 great grandchildren; Linley Diem; Harper Diem; Ford Diem; Jude Diem; Marsden Diem; Braxton Beard; Henley Billmaier; Ian Billmaier; 1 great grandchild "On the Way", Declan Diem; two brothers, Roger Diem and Dennis (Kathryn) Diem; sister-in-law, Sandra Diem Bowers; and brother-in-law, William "Bill" Wilhelm.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Richard Diem; sisters, Judy Wink and Linda Wilhelm; niece, Heidi Wilhelm and nephew, Gary Diem.
Private services for the family will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 with Fr. Tom McQuillen officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army and Deshler American Legion Post #316. A public celebration of Ron's life is being planned and will be announced at a later date in regards to COVID19 protocols.
