Ronald C. Hoops
September 16, 1941 - February 2, 2024
Ronald Carl Hoops, 82, of rural Malinta, Ohio passed away Friday afternoon, February 2, 2024 at Mercy St. Vincent Hospital, Toledo, Ohio.
He was born on September 16, 1941 to the late Arthur and Juanita (Nickels) Hoops. On October 15, 1960 he married Mary Kay (Meyer) Hoops at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hamler and they have shared over 63 years. Together they spent many fun filled winters in Haines City, Florida.
Ron was a devoted husband, a supportive father and an admiring grandfather and great grandfather. He was always around to care for his family and be present to witness all of their accomplishments. He enjoyed many years of following his own children, especially sporting events at Patrick Henry Schools. He looked forward to the popcorn and cheering on his favorite players and teams. When the next generation came along, he then turned his focus to the role of grandpa and great grandpa.
Ron worked at the John Manville Plant in Defiance, Ohio, for over 13 years. He retired as a truck driver for Jay Huddle Farms of Napoleon, Ohio. During farming season, he took countless loads of carrots, other vegetables and grain wherever they needed to be.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Deshler and previously served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Bavarian Club.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Kay; four children, Timothy L. Hoops (Laurie Elling); Peggy (Steven) Ritz; Randy (Kathy) Hoops; Jeff (Lora) Hoops; five grandchildren; Kristina (Leland) McCandless; Elizabeth (Jake) O'Day; Jennifer Ritz; Morgan (Greg) Welch; Cody "Scooter" Hoops; four great grandsons, Callen; Oliver; Waylon; Dutton; and two sisters, Mary Lou (Louie) Striecher and Barbara Kruse.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Leroy Hoops; Wayne Hoops; Kenneth Hoops and Lester Hoops.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at St. John Lutheran Church, Deshler, with Rev. James Wenger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery and a luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler and from 10-11 a.m., Thursday at the church.
The family suggests memorials to St. John Lutheran Church or Henry County Cancer Care.
